Shenzhen and Zhuhai are set to be connected by a new high-speed railway, reducing travel time between the two cities to just 30 minutes. This ambitious infrastructure project is part of a broader development plan aimed at enhancing connectivity within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
High-Speed Rail Project Overview
According to local reports, the high-speed railway will be a key component of the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Corridor, which also includes a motorway and an intercity rail service. The Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission has allocated research funds for this project in its 2025 budget, underlining its significance for regional development.
The planned high-speed railway will stretch 80.7 kilometers and feature trains capable of reaching speeds of 350 kilometers per hour. This will drastically cut the current travel duration, making commuting between Shenzhen and Zhuhai more efficient for residents and businesses alike.

The latest railway and motorway project follows the successful opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea link in June last year. The 24-kilometer passage features two bridges, two artificial islands, and an underwater tunnel, drastically reducing travel time between the two cities from two hours to just 30 minutes. The passage accommodates vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour.
