At Your Service! Former Military Policewoman Crowned ‘Nan from Del Monte®’ in Nationwide Hunt to Save Britain’s Baking Traditions!
Del Monte Brings Back the Iconic ‘Man from Del Monte’ After 30 Years – with a Modern Twist!
Today, Del Monte®, the UK’s leading canned fruit brand trusted by generations for over 130 years, proudly announces Pauline Crosby, a 74-year-old grandmother from Norfolk, as their inaugural “Nan from Del Monte.” Pauline has been crowned after an extensive search and a public vote to lend her seal of approval to Del Monte®’s recipe creations, just as the beloved ‘Man from Del Monte’ did in the 1980s.
Nominated by her granddaughter Poppie for the competition, former military policewoman Pauline is a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and great-grandmother to 17 great grandchildren. In her nomination, Poppie celebrated Pauline’s ability to turn every meal into a cherished memory for her family. Pauline, an active member of the Women’s Institute, has been chosen to champion intergenerational baking traditions and inspire families across the nation to preserve treasured recipes, just as she has done with her family.
The search for the “Nan from Del Monte” was launched in response to research conducted by Del Monte®, which revealed that 39% of Brits cite their grandmothers as their biggest kitchen influences, while 41% say their fondest baking memories were made alongside a grandparent. However, with 74% expressing concerns about losing cherished family recipes, the campaign set out to find a figurehead who could champion Britain’s rich baking heritage.
As the “Nan from Del Monte,” Pauline will share her beloved recipes with the public, offer her seal of approval on new recipe creations, and inspire others to embrace baking traditions. She will also receive a year’s supply of Del Monte® products and a NutriBullet® blender appliance. One of the recipes that secured Pauline’s win, an innovative trifle featuring Del Monte® mandarin slices, will now be featured on the Del Monte website.
Pauline expressed her delight at being crowned, saying: “To win the title of ‘Nan from Del Monte’ is such a privilege. I think many of us remember the ‘Man from Del Monte’ adverts, which still make me smile. Now, the ‘Nan from Del Monte’ says yes! Baking has always been at the heart of my family, and I feel so proud to know that my recipes and traditions are being celebrated in this way by such an iconic brand. It’s a joy to see the next generation enjoy the dishes I’ve passed down, and I hope this recognition inspires others to keep these precious family traditions alive.”
Thierry Montange, Marketing Director for Europe and Africa at Del Monte®, shared: “We are thrilled to announce Pauline as our first-ever ‘Nan from Del Monte.’ This campaign was designed to reignite the nation’s passion for traditional baking and ensure cherished family recipes are preserved for future generations. Pauline truly embodies the spirit of this initiative, and her story reminds us of the invaluable role grandparents play in shaping our culinary culture. We hope her win inspires families everywhere to revive their baking heritage and continue creating lasting memories together.”
