[About Us]
News
Who can submit news?
ColemanNews.com and the Coleman Chronicle and Democrat-Voice
encourage anyone in the community to submit relevant articles, press
releases, or human interest stories. Our news generally comes from
in-house writers, freelance writers, community correspondents, or
from people just like you.
What is news worthy?
We typically separate news into different categories: standard news,
celebrations and announcements, and advertising. Standard news
includes news articles, press releases, or human interest stories
concerning our community, while celebrations and announcements often
relate to individuals or groups observing an occasion or event.
On the other hand, Dictionary.com defines advertising as "the act or
practice of calling public attention to one's product, service,
need, etc." If a news release or article sounds anything close
to the preceding definition, we will not run the story.
Nonetheless, we will gladly help you with any of your advertising
needs. After all, we are a business just like a hardware store or
accounting firm, and advertising allows us to deliver Coleman County
news to our community via the world wide web and newspaper!
When do you update the website?
We update the website continually throughout the day as news breaks
and rolls in to our inboxes and office. We are typically more busy
on the weekdays, but post several updates on Saturday and try to
rest on Sunday (though we do post breaking news from time to time).
Free Classifieds
Is the classified advertisement section free?
Yes. The classified section is free to individuals selling items,
wanting items, missing things, providing services, etc. Simply email
us at mail@colemannews.com with your ad and we will gladly post it.
Are there any restrictions?
Yes. There are three:
1) We do not provide free services for businesses.
We stand by this policy because we cannot ask for some businesses to
pay for advertising, while others get our services for free. Also,
we too are a business, and in order to provide free services to our
thousands of readers, we need businesses to support our news service
with advertising. However, if you do advertise in the classified
section in the newspaper, you may also have an online classified
advertisement complimentary.
2) We will not post an excessive amount of
pictures on free classified ads. While we encourage you to post
a graphic of your item or service, we ask that you do not submit
multiple pictures. Picture files are extremely large and occupy
valuable service space. They not only absorb server space, but they
also make the website slower.
3) We ask that classified advertisers only submit a
maximum of three advertisements at a time. Spam is a
serious problem on free service websites. In order for us to be fair
to everyone else's postings, we cannot take over three ads per
individual.
Are there any exceptions?
Yes. Businesses who advertise in the classified section in the
newspaper may indeed advertise for "free" in the classified section
online.
Why didn't my ad get posted?
For one of two reasons: 1) Your ad either violated one of the above
restrictions or it was inappropriate, 2) It was accidently filtered
or overlooked.
If you feel your ad was overlooked, simply email us again or call to
verify. Due to the high quantity of emails we get a day, we do
sometimes fail to see all messages.
Why don't I get a confirmation email concerning my advertisement?
Due to the high quantity of emails we receive a day, we do not
respond to every message. In fact, if we do not respond to your
message, assume that we're posting or posted your ad. If you sent
the email later in the evening or at night, we may not post it until
the next morning.
Celebrations
What counts as a celebration?
Birthdays, birth announcements, anniversaries, engagements, holiday
wishes, reunions, etc. However, we do not post birthday party
invitations or any kind of celebration invitations.
When should I send in the celebration announcement?
Please do not send the announcement too far in advance, as we
receive a large volume of emails and your email could be overlooked.
We ask that on Monday through Friday you send it the day of or the
day before the celebration.
For weekend celebration announcements, please send postings before
noon on Friday.
