one by Jarred Briley (1yd). Defense was led by A.J.

Bluecats Fall to the Cubs
8/30/2009
The Coleman Bluecats played the Olney Cubs Thursday, August
27th in Breckenridge. The Cats weren't able to pull out a
win, but there were some bright spots during the night,
including some great defensive stands.
1st Quarter - Lots of Action!
The game began with Jr. Travis Brixey receiving the opening
kickoff. He got to the 35 yard line for the first Bluecat
possession. After an illegal block was called on the first
play from scrimmage, and 1st and 25 on the 20 yard line,
another penalty on 4th down ended up forcing the Cats to
punt on 4th down from the 22 yard line.
Olney received the punt and after a penalty of their own,
had 2nd down and 15 from their 45 yard line. After a tackle
by Zach Doyle behind the line of scrimmage for a 3 yard
loss, the Cubs had 4th and 18 and subsequently punted.
With 8:06 left in the 1st quarter, Brixey received the punt
and got to the 27 yard line for the Cats 2nd possession.
Jimenez gained 2 yards, then Sr. running back Andrew Isom
ran for a first down taking Coleman to the 39 yard line.
Isom again took the ball and got to the Olney 21 yard line
for another 1st down. Doyle then gained 3, but a flag on 2nd
down gave the Cats 2nd and 11. Doyle got within 2 yards of a
1st on the next play, then Isom got to the 10 yard line for
another 1st down. With 1st and goal from the 10, a holding
penalty put the Cats back on the 20. However, Jr. Britt
Bartell (pictured right - Photo courtesy of Gary
Strickland, StricksPics) got
into the endzone on the next play with 4:08 left in the 1st
quarter. With Miguel Vasquez' extra point kick good,
the score was Coleman 7 - Olney
0.
Olney received the ensuing kickoff getting to the Coleman 42
yard line. Five plays later, the Cubs' quarterback got into
the endzone. With 2:37 left in the 1st quarter, their miss
of the extra point made the score
Coleman 7 - Olney 6.
Brixey returned their kickoff to the 43 yard line. Isom ran
with the ball on the next play, but a facemask call on the
defense gave the Cats 15 yards putting them on the Olney 42
yard line. Doyle kept the ball on the next play, but was
stopped behind the line of scrimmage for a 5 yard loss. It
was then Sr. Adam Jimenez' turn with the ball. He ran
into the endzone for a touchdown, and Vasquez extra point
gave the Cats a 14 - 6 lead
with 1:06 in the 1st quarter.
Unfortunately Olney then returned to their endzone during
their next possession via the air. Another missed extra
point gave
Coleman a continued lead of 14-12
with 0:14 seconds left in the 1st quarter. Isom returned the
kickoff and after 2 plays the quarter ended.
2nd Quarter - Lead Change
With 3rd and 7 on the 41 yard line. A flag put the Cats back
5 more yards. A completed pass from Doyle to Isom gained 4
yards, but not enough for a 1st down. Coleman was forced to
punt.
Olney took the ball to their own 34 yard line. Jr. Edgar
Barrios kept the quarterback to a 2 yard gain on the 1st
play from scrimmage. However, the Cubs' Zack Cuba got a 1st
down on the next play. After an incomplete pass, protected
by Edgar Barrios, Peyton Schumann, Travis Brixey and Daniel
Vasquez, and an Eta Agbor sack, Olney was forced to punt.
Coleman ran 4 plays and was also forced to punt from their
own 31 yard line.
With 5:17 left in the 2nd quarter, Olney began on their own
41 yard line. With a second 1st down in the series, the Cubs
threw the ball. The feet of Logan Owens and the intended
receiver got tangled up and passing interference was called
on the Cats. The Cubs moved to the 23 yard line on the
penalty and two plays later their quarterback scored.
Another missed extra point made the score
Coleman 14 - Olney 18
with 2:30 left in the 1st half.
An onside kick was fumbled by the Cats and Olney recovered
the ball. With 1:37 on the clock, the Cubs scored again,
again missing an extra point attempt.
Coleman 14 - Olney 24.
The next onside kick was covered by Jimenez from Coleman and
the series began on the 48 yard line. Isom made a 1st down,
then Jimenez made a second 1st down. Coleman was on the 20
yard line with 0:29 seconds left in the half. Two plays
later a completed pass from Doyle to Isom made it 1st and
goal from the 6 yard line. With 0:08 on the clock, a penalty
and a sack of the quarterback by Olney ended the half.
Score was Coleman 14 - Olney
24.
3rd Quarter - Fumble-Fumble-Fumble
Olney received the kickoff to start the 2nd half. On 4th and
11 from the Cat's 43 yard line, a roughing-the-kicker
penalty gave the Cubs a first down. However, the Cubs
FUMBLED and the Cats
recovered the ball on the 41 yard line.
Next play - the Cats FUMBLE
- returning the ball to Olney on the 37 yard line. After
receiving a 1st down, on 2nd down, Coleman's Adam Jimenez
recovered an Olney FUMBLE
and ran to the Coleman 25 yard line. After seven plays, on
3rd and 11 from the Olney 49 yard line a bad snap went over
Doyle's head and Coleman was forced to punt with 4th and 33.
On Olney's next possession they were able to make 2 first
downs before the end of the 3rd quarter.
4th Quarter - NO SCORING
Olney started on the 47 yard line, and got to Coleman's 25
yard line.
On 4th and 4 a halfback pass was incomplete and Coleman took
over on downs. The Cats were not able to move the ball and
were forced to punt with 8:00 left in the game.
Olney took the ball from Coleman's 49 yard line, but a bad
snap, a penalty, and several incomplete passes, Olney
punted the ball back to Coleman with 4:45 left in the game.
Brixey received the punt, but Coleman started this
possession on their own 7 yard line. Isom broke loose on the
next play and ran 23 yards to the 30 yard line. The Cats
were unable to capitalize on this and on 4th and 18 they had
to punt the ball back to Olney with 1:01 left in the game.
Olney ended the game by downing the ball and the final score
was Coleman 14 - Olney 24.

Bluecats Take Olney Cubs to
Task
8/29/2008
Thursday night in Breckenridge, the Coleman Bluecats
scored 28 points to Olney's 0 and won their first game
of the season. The Bluecats took the opening kickoff and
during their first possession moved down the
field to Olney's 17 yard line with 8:18 left in the
first quarter. Able to move only 6 yards after 4
attempts, the Bluecats handed the Cubs possession of the
ball on their own 11 yard line.
Olney's first possession resulted in a punt after one
series of downs and the Bluecats took the ball on their
own 3 yard line. Coleman started this series with 2:09
left in 1st Quarter. After a total gain of 8 yards by
Kahlam Salazar and Glen Edington, and on a 3rd an 2,
Colton Buzzard carried the ball 89 yards to the end
zone; however, a personal foul near the 25 yard line
brought the Cats back to the 34 yard line. After Salazar
gained 11 yards, it was another 1st down. After a 1 yard
loss on the next play, the 1st quarter ended with the
score 0-0. The 2nd quarter started with a
2nd and 11. Edington got 1 yard, making it 3rd and
10. Colton Buzzard then passed to Dalton DeLeon
for a touchdown with
11:16 left in 2nd quarter. Jonathan Sanchez
kicked the PAT bringing
the score to Bluecats 7 - Olney 0.
Olney received the kick-off with a fair catch on their
own 24 yard line. After 2 - 1st down series, the Cubs
punted and the Cats allowed the punt to roll to Olney's
43 yard line to start their next possession. After being
unable to gain a 1st down, Coleman was forced to punt
and Olney started their series on their own 25 yard
line. After a tackle by Agbor, Cole, and Walker, Olney
was unable to move more than 1 yard and punted to
Coleman with 7:12 left in the 2nd quarter.
The Cats took over on their own 40 yard line. A pass
from Buzzard to DeLeon was complete to Olney's 44, but a
penalty on the play brought it back for a 1st and 15 on
the 35 yard line. On the 3rd down, a defensive
interference call against Olney with a 15 yard penalty
gave Coleman a 1st and 10 from Olney's 45 yard line. On
the next 4th down, the long snap to Buzzard got away and
he covered it giving the Cats a 4th and 17 with 3:32
left in the first half. The punt was caught for a fair
catch on the 8 yard line. After Sanchez and Edington got
a tackle keeping Olney to a short 2 yard gain, Agbor and
C. Barrios sacked the quarterback giving them 4th and 18
on their own 1 yard line. Jamal Agbor then
blocked the punt
in the end zone and it was covered by the Cats for a
touchdown. The PAT fake
for a run was not converted so the score was 13-0 with
1:39 left in the first half. Olney received the kickoff
and got to their own 40 yard line, but was not able to
score as the half ended 13-0.
To start the 3rd quarter, Olney received the kickoff
giving them a 1st and 10 on their own 33 yard line. They
were able to get a 1st down moving to Coleman's 44 yard
line. Edington sacked the quarterback for a 15 yard loss
giving them 2nd and 25. However, they were able to pass
and run for another 1st down to Coleman's 32 yard line.
After another penalty against Olney, and a 2nd and 20,
they were unable to get a first down and they turned the
ball over on downs to the Cats with 7:09 left in the 3rd
quarter. The Bluecats started this series on their own
29 yard line. Edington gained 5 yards, Salazar, 7 giving
Coleman a 1st down on the 41. Salazar gained 1 and
DeLeon received a pass from Buzzard giving the Cats
another 1st down on Olney's 43 yard line. Edington then
ran for 8 yards and Buzzard then kept the ball to get to
the Olney 23 yard line. On 3rd down, Buzzard ran
the ball in for a touchdown
from the 16 yard line. The extra point conversion
was good with a Buzzard pass to Dalton DeLeon,
giving Coleman a 21-0 lead with 3:08 left in 3rd
quarter.
Olney fumbled the ensuing kick-off but regained
possession on their own 24 yard line. With a 4th and 14
from own 20 and 2:01 in the 3rd quarter they punted and
Edington returned it from the 50 yard line to Olney's 29
yard line. On the 1st and 10, DeLeon was in the end zone
for pass and defensive interference was called. The ball
was placed on the 13 yard line. A pass to DeLeon was
incomplete bringing 2nd and 10. Edington then ran for
11yds giving the Cats 1st and goal on the 2. Edington
tried for the end zone again, but fumbled. Coleman
maintained possession of the ball. After no gain on the
2nd down, and with 3rd down and 1 yard to go for a
touchdown, the 3rd quarter ended.
Colton Buzzard started the 4th quarter off with a
run in from the 1yard line for a touchdown, PAT from
Sanchez was good giving
Coleman a 28-0 score with 11:55 left in the game.
Buzzard kicked to Olney who returned to Coleman's 46
yard line. Olney was again unable to get a first down,
and after a punt, Coleman started their next series with
9:40 left in the game.
An option from Buzzard to Edington gained 8 yards, but a
penalty put Coleman back to the 16 yard line. With 2nd
and 16, Agbor caught a Buzzard pass for 17yards bringing
a 3rd and 4. Buzzard ran a keeper for a 1st and 10 on
the 48 yard line. A pass from Buzzard to DeLeon was
complete, but a fumble by DeLeon was recovered by Olney
giving them possession again with 6:52 left in the game.
Olney did get one 1st down and moved to the 28 yard
line, but on 4th and 4 they received a holding penalty
giving them 4th and 14. They were unable to convert for
a 1st down, so Coleman took possession with 3:49 left in
the game.
This Coleman possession ended with a fumble recovery by
Olney on Coleman's own 44 yard line. A 20 yard gain gave
them a 1st down on the 24 yard line. The quarterback was
sacked for a loss of 6 yards, but with only a 12 yard
gain in 2 downs, and on 4th and 4, Olney failed to get a
1st down and Coleman took over possession with 6 seconds
left in the game. The game ended with the
score 28-0, Bluecats on top!

been, especially for a 1st-year camp, with a great
turnout. He said the boys took instruction well.
Coleman's new basketball Coach, C.J. Villegas, said
Coleman is beginning basketball this year going "back to
the basics." "Fundamentals will be stressed," he
said.
