GAME SUMMARY

The Coleman JV Blue Bluecats opened the season with a victory over the Grape Creek Eagles Tuesday night. The Bluecats started out sluggish to begin the game, as game one jitters seemed to dominate both teams performance. The Bluecats finished the game with double digits in the last three quarters to control the game. A total team effort showed as the scoring spread around evenly. Defensively, the Bluecats started out strong and continued to hold off a late Eagle surge.
COACHES COMMENTS
I was proud of the way the team played together. Players showed hustle, determination, and unselfishness, which are keys to victories. We still have a lot to work on, but victory number one is great to have early in the season.

PANTHER CREEK BI-DISTRICT CHAMPS
Quarterfinal Game this Friday!
11/16/2009
by Brett Autry

Panther Creek 51
Mullin 6

What looked like a good matchup on paper, turned out to be a runaway. The Panther Creek Panthers won their Bi-District game with ease, "mercy-ruling" the previously once-beaten Mullin Bulldogs 51-6, with the game called at halftime.
Trevor Smith led the Panther charge, passing for four touchdowns on a 6-of-8 evening, garnering 77 yards. Ethan Griffin, who rushed for 194 yards on 14 carries for the evening was the other half of the potent Panther scoring machine. He started off the scoring for the night, when he crashed over the goal from 3 yards out with 9:51 showing on the clock in the first quarter.
Trent Smith's kick was good for an 8-0 lead. Smith registered his first touchdown pass next, when he hit Fred Blackwell, good for 25 yards. Smith's kick made it 16-0 with 6:36 left.
Mullin cut the lead when Randy Simms hit Paul Knight for a 15-yard score. The kick was blocked and the score was 16-6 with 4:02 left in the initial quarter.
Devin Griffin then got the call, and scored on a 9-yard run with 2:07 left. Smith's kick was true and the score read 24-6 after one quarter of play.
Johnny Stewart then hauled in a Smith pass from 7 yards away for another touchdown at the 6:41 mark of the second. Smith's kick made it 32-6.
Ethan Griffin scored next...this one on a dazzling 62-yard scamper with just 2:29 left in the half. Smith then hit Stewart for the 1-point conversion, making the score 39-6.
After a Mullin turnover, the Panthers got the ball back, and scored just 19 seconds later, when Smith hit Blackwell again on a 9-yard TD pass. The kick failed, and the score was 45-6 with 2:10 showing.
The last score of the night involved the two scoring machines, when Smith hit E. Griffin this time, and it was good for 11 yards and another touchdown, bringing on the final score of 51-6.
Mullin finished their year at 9-2, while the Panthers improve to 9-2 and will face the undefeated Walnut Springs in May this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Smith had one interception and 8 tackles for the night, while Stewart recovered 2 fumbles and had 4 tackles, E. Griffin had 5 tackles for the defense.
Blackwell led receivers with 2 catches for 34 yards and 2 TDs, while Turney had one for 16, Stewart had 2 for 16 and 1 TD, and E. Griffin had one for 11 and a TD. Smith booted 4-of-6 PATs for a total of 8 points.
The Panthers are truly on a roll, and will be hard to stop. Their offense is clicking on all cylinders while their defense is stifling their opponents and getting turnovers.
