Texas, Coleman County Electric Coop will sell its 33
miles of high-voltage transmission lines, related
sub-station facilities and SCADA equipment in Coleman,
Callahan, Concho and Runnels counties to Golden Spread
Electric Cooperative.
During their meeting Monday morning, County
Commissioners were notified of the proposed sale by
County Judge Jimmie Hobbs. According to the notice to
county and municipal governments, on June 24, 2008,

affected by the filing. The estimated sales price is
approximately $551,454. Under the proposed transaction,
Coleman will continue to operate and maintain the
facilities.
Copies of the application and the map illustrating the
facilities are available in Coleman's offices at 3300 N.

Producers Eligible for Disaster Payments

FSA ACCEPTING EMERGENCY LOAN
APPLICATIONS
Available to Coleman County for the following
Designations:
Disaster Declaration #S2677
– Damages and Losses caused by fires and high winds that
occurred January 1, 2008 and continuing. Applications
are for Production and Physical Losses. Final day to
apply for this Declaration is January 15, 2009.
Coleman County was declared eligible for Farm Service
Agency (FSA) disaster Emergency loans. Generally, that
means that farmers who have lost at least 30 percent of
their production due to loss listed on these
declarations during this time period and continuing are
eligible for FSA loans. Proceeds from crop insurance are
taken into consideration when determining eligibility.
FSA
Farm Loan Manager, CYNTHIA P. KRUGER, is urging farmers
who are interested in receiving an emergency loan to
submit their applications into FSA as soon as possible.
Ms. Kruger said, “We hope farmers will get their
applications in early rather than waiting until near the
deadlines. The longer they wait, the more chance there
is for long delays. If the applications come in early,
we can avoid backlogs and speed up the process.” The FSA
office is located at 119 West Street, Coleman, TX. The
telephone number is (325) 625-2290.

6/25/2008
The
Family Life Center is finally ready for viewing. The

of the finished product. The building has 4
Sunday school rooms,
a large kitchen, a hospitality or

mile), a gym and a stage. The entire building is 15,000
sq. feet and has central heat and air.

to a Dedication and Open House for the Family Life
Center Sunday, June 29 from 1:30 to 4:30pm. The

CCHC Has Busy June
6/22/2008
Local history and the
business of history have kept members of the Coleman
County Historical
Commission (CCHC) busy the last few weeks at Heritage
Hall, and they’ve more to do.
Edwina Early of Lawn, whose roots are in
northwestern Coleman County, gave a very interesting
program at Heritage Hall on the area around and
including Silver Valley. She covered everything that was
within ‘walking distance’ (by foot or by horse) of
Silver Valley. Word has spread about her presentation
and the CCHC has already had requests for details about
the program. Following that program, Maxine Cope
treated CCHC members and guests to a tour of the newest
additions to the Heritage Hall museum and the local
photos displayed in the exhibit hall. Tuesday
night, CCHC board members Maxine Cope, Sue Frizzell,
Eric Joffrion, Tex Wright and ad hoc member Virginia
Powell met to cover CCHC business. Since all members
present attended the last business meeting, minutes were
not read and the group got right into new agenda items.
Maxine Cope, CCHC Treasurer, reported that she had a
good visit with Kay Lemay, County Treasurer. Maxine said
that the CCHC balance with the county was $565.25 and
that the CCHC must have new budget numbers to the county
by mid-July. Tex Wright said that the next program
would be on the Trickham area. Time and place to be
determined at a later date. Sue Frizzell added that a
program on the Burkett area will be presented in August.
Changes to the CCHC bylaws were discussed and many great
ideas were presented. The proposed amendments to the
local bylaws will be presented, in writing, at the next
meeting for discussion. If there are no changes, these
amendments will be voted on at the next meeting
following the meeting where the written amendments are
presented. Due to time constraints, a motion was
made and passed that the CCHC master plan agenda item be
postponed until the next business meeting.

DPS Warns Residents
About Alarm Salespersons, Installers and Companies
6/19/2008
The Texas Department of
Public Safety is urging Texas residents to make sure
that any alarm salesperson, company or alarm installer
that they hire is licensed by the State of Texas.
"We urge anyone who is considering hiring an alarm
company or installer to check whether they are actually
licensed in Texas, as required by state law," said Capt.
RenEarl Bowie of the DPS Private Security Bureau. "Alarm
installers and salespersons are required to undergo a
criminal background check before being licensed, to help
ensure the safety of the public." The Private
Security Bureau has initiated investigations in Houston
and San Antonio following reports that numerous
unlicensed salespersons, installers and companies have
been aggressively marketing their services to residents
in those cities. Other cities may also have experienced
an influx of these salespeople. DPS is working with the
alarm industry trade associations to investigate these
claims.
To check whether an alarm
company is
licensed in Texas, please visit the following web site:

American Cancer
Society’s Road to Recovery Drives Out Cancer
6/18/2008
More than 95,000
residents in TX will learn that they have cancer this
year. For many of those residents, however, getting to
the treatment they need may be a problem.
“One cancer patient requiring radiation therapy could
need anywhere from 20 to 30 trips for treatment in six
weeks,” said Linda Neill, the Health Initiatives
Coordinator for the West Texas Region of the American
Cancer Society. “A patient receiving chemotherapy might
report for treatment weekly for up to a year. In many
cases, a patient is driven to hospitals or clinics by
relatives or friends, but even these patients must
occasionally seek alternative transportation. That’s
where Road to Recovery comes in.”
Road to Recovery is a program of volunteers who drive
patients to treatment centers and home again. Your
American Cancer Society needs more volunteers to insure
that all patients have transportation when they need it.
“Road to Recovery volunteers arrange their own
schedules, with some volunteering as little as one
afternoon a month and others driving patients as often
as twice a week,” Neill said. “We know that the high
price of gas can be an issue for our volunteers and the
American Cancer Society will provide some compensation
for gas for our Road to Recovery Volunteers.”
If you have a car and some spare time, you can
help someone keep a potentially lifesaving appointment.
A training will be held on June 30
at the American Cancer Society office, 3228 College
Hills Blvd. San Angelo.

Rodeo Clowns a Big
Part of the Show!
6/14/2008
With only two weeks left until the
Coleman County Sesquicentennial
Celebration excitement is at an all time high not
only for the members of community but for the PRCA Rodeo
Clowns as well. The PRCA Rodeo will take place June
19-21st but the celebration will be a week long affair
and where ever there is a celebration you can sure to
spot these clowns. Rudy Burns. The name alone is
legend among the PRCA ranks. Rudy, a
Louisiana native and Mississippi transplant, has been
entertaining rodeo crowds for thirty-six years. His
comedy has long been the standard to which others
measure themselves and often times you can see his
influence in the newer acts in the PRCA. Not only a
funnyman but an athlete as well Rudy has served as the WNFR barrelman
as well as been awarded the Coors Man in-the-Can.
Joining Rudy in the arena are bullfighters Clay Collins and Josh Rivinius. While you
may see them take part in some of Rudy’s
games they is nothing funny about the job they do during
the bull riding. Josh, an exceptional bullfighter got
his start in rodeo as a kid competing in Little
Britches. As he got older and moved up the ranks
competing as an all-around cowboy in the bareback, steer
wrestling and roping events he decided to join the PRCA.
It was then that he found his true calling in life,
bullfighting, since then he has been a consistent figure
at some of the PRCA’s larger events such as Lawton, OK
and the Badlands Circuit Finals. While Josh was busy on
the rodeo trail Clay was busy as a standout high school
athlete more focused on baseball and football then
rodeo. It wasn’t until Clay was in college that he
realized his love of the sport of rodeo. He knew that
was where his future was and it didn’t take long for him
to make a splash as a PRCA Bullfighter. Most recently
Clay has served as the 2007 Wrangler National Finals
Bullfighter and was selected to work the 2008 Dodge
National Circuit Finals Rodeo. This is a rare
opportunity to see a trio of amazing men in action.
As festivities kick-off, plan on taking
your kids to the Coleman Public Library on Thursday
June19, at 2:00pm, for an up close encounter with these
Heroes of Rodeo. Rodeo
action begins on Thursday, June 19th and continues thru
Saturday June 21st with all performances starting at
8:00pm.

Carter states that he gets all the recognition he could
ever hope for from the kids and teachers that he is

says you made in his/her life and the note you get from
a parent who expresses appreciation for something you
didn’t even know you were doing or the thank you letter
you get from a teacher who is appreciative of something
you have done that makes me feel good.”

Convention for his achievement. Schools from all over
the state of Texas will be represented at the awards

CCMC FUNDRAISER A
SUCCESS!
6/10/2008 (Contributed by Sue
Titsworth)
The wind was blowing, and there was a
slight hope of rain from the clouds overhead, but still
the CCMC employees and the folks of the community came
out to support the CCMC Employees Activity Committee
Fundraiser.
While the net profit was not as good as last year, CCMC
still counts it as a successful fundraiser because every
dollar that can be put in the CCMC Equipment Fund is a
dollar closer to the hospital getting the equipment
needed to continue to give the best service possible to
the people of Coleman and Coleman County.
The CCMC
Employees Activity Committee and Coleman County Medical
Center extend their thanks to all those who came out and
enjoyed the barbecue and hot dogs and helped to raise
money.
Jordan Jewell to
Compete in Abilene

Jordan
Jewell, a Junior at Santa Anna High School, and her
horse Midget will be competing next week in break- away
roping at the Texas High School State Rodeo Finals in
Abilene, Tx. In order to compete at the State Finals,
Jordan had to finish in the top 10 out of the Region
after competing in a series of 9 rodeos beginning in
September and running through April. Jordan will be
among the top 100 break-away ropers in the state
competing next week. However, Jordan and Midget are no
strangers to the
competition, and are a tough team to be reckoned with,
last year they qualified in
the pole bending and ended up in the top ten in the
State of Texas. Good Luck Jordan.
